Interview on Spain’s National Evening News: The Future of Game Development

In June 2017, I was interviewed on Telediario, the flagship news programme of RTVE, Spain’s public broadcaster, during the summer course «Multiplatform Video Game Development», which I had the honour of directing at the University of Cantabria. An opportunity to bring two conversations — still very much alive today — to public airwaves:

The future of game development. We talked about where the industry was heading: emerging platforms, new ways of playing, and the technical and creative challenges awaiting developers. Back then, the Spanish games industry was just finding its footing; today it is a cultural and economic powerhouse.

The growing mainstream interest in video games. We made a point we had been championing in the classroom for years: gaming was no longer a niche hobby. It was culture, it was an industry, and it was a career path that more students crossed into every year.

I also spoke about my own journey as CEO of a tech company, bringing together a business perspective and an academic one, in a sector that demands both.

Directing that course meant, in a way, getting ahead of the map: what was then uncharted ground is now an established discipline. Watching that interview means watching the starting point.
